Hong Kong company stamp specs

When setting up a Hong Kong company, you typically order a few different stamps for different purposes. This page summarises the common sizes, uses and design conventions so you can pick the right STAMP4U generator before ordering.

Common seal (round company seal)

• Typical diameter: 40mm — 45mm.
• Outer ring is the English company name (match your Certificate of Incorporation), inner ring is the Chinese name, with an optional centre ornament (e.g. ❋).
• Black ink by default; blue or purple for secondary copies; red is often used for bank account opening and certain formal documents.
• Used on: contracts, board resolutions, company filings, bank account opening.

Rectangle / address stamp

• Typical size: 60mm × 25mm or 70mm × 30mm.
• Usually includes English name, Chinese name, and often the phrases "For and on behalf of" and "Authorized Signature(s)".
• Used on: invoices, receipts, letters, supplier documents.

Oval stamp

• Typical size: around 45mm × 30mm.
• Combines the formality of a round seal with the information density of a rectangle — common for department or branch stamps.

Square / name chop

• Typical size: 15mm × 15mm — 25mm × 25mm.
• 1-2 Chinese characters on both the left and right — usually surname + given name.
• Used on: director approvals, internal approvals, cheque co-signing.

Ink colour recommendations

• Black — default, fits every formal document.
• Blue — highlights an original vs. a copy.
• Purple — internal approvals, temporary stamps.
• Red — bank account opening, important statutory documents, or industry-specific practice.

Font choices

• 標楷體 / 新細明體 — most common, formal.
• 圓體 / 黑體 — modern, good for tech and creative companies.
